We are a community of people who are passionate about providing the best possible care for our dogs with Addison’s disease and spreading the word about this disease, far and wide. When most of our dogs were diagnosed, we knew nothing about Addison’s disease. We felt overwhelmed, thinking our dogs might die (some came close) and needing to learn so many new terms and concepts. We were frightened about how we would pay for medications, blood tests, and so forth. We are here to help each other through the scary times when our dogs are first diagnosed or when people are still searching for a diagnosis. We help each other learn how to make the costs of treatment very manageable (you’d be amazed how affordable treatment can be) and how to help our dogs feel their very best. We also stay in touch with each other for many years, sharing stories and experiences and rejoicing in how well our dogs are feeling.
When it’s their time to leave us, most of our dogs die from old age or from something unrelated to Addison’s disease. As odd as it may sound, the wonderful news is that Addison’s disease is a great disease to have if your dog must have a disease. Our dogs can live long, normal lives doing anything any other dog can do. After surviving the Addisonian crisis, many of our dogs return to being agility dogs, therapy dogs, service dogs, or just our spoiled and adored dogs. You name it. If our dogs are properly medicated (and we can help you learn what that is), they can do anything at all. Of course, whether they choose to do what we ask them to do is another story – but that has nothing to do with Addison’s!
As you can see from our map, we have members from many places throughout the world. We’d like to spread the word about Addison’s disease and CARE even further. We hope you will consider joining us! Our time together is very rewarding.
